چکیده
A 12-year-old girl presented with a history of scattered, pruritic papules and vesicles every summer for the last 5 years. The dermatitis appeared on exposed areas of her skin, and her father associated contact with plants at a camp with the eruption. She had a personal history of eczema, and in the past had had positive prick test reactions to commonallergens, but shewas free of rhinitis symptoms. She presented with her father for patch testing, having brought samples of the suspected culprit plants, which had been kept frozen. These were properly identified. Patch testing was performed with the North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG) baseline series (AllergEAZE, SmartPractice, Calgary, Canada), a plant series (Chemotechnique Diagnostics, Vellinge, Sweden), and pieces of leaves and flowers of the personal plant samples. The latter included Verbascum thapsus (common

Anthelmintic and relaxant activities of Verbascum Thapsus Mullein
BACKGROUND Verbascum thapsus is used in tribal medicine as an antispasmodic, anti-tubercular agent and wormicide. In this study, we investigated the antispasmodic and anthelmintic activities of crude aqueous methanolic extract of the plant. METHODS V. thapsus extracts were tested against roundworms (Ascaridia galli) and tapeworms (Raillietina spiralis). Each species of worm was placed into a ...

Introduction: Atherosclerosis is a disease of the veins characterized by the deposition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol on the inner wall of medium and large diameter arteries. The aim of this study was to compare the anti-sclerotic effect of hydroalcoholic extract of verbascum Thapsus, lemon juice, lemon peel and quinacrine on blood lipid concentration, C-rea...
متن کاملAntiviral Activity of Some Plants Used in Nepalese Traditional Medicine
Methanolic extracts of 41 plant species belonging to 27 families used in the traditional medicine in Nepal have been investigated for in vitro antiviral activity against Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and influenza virus A by dye uptake assay in the systems HSV-1/Vero cells and influenza virus A/MDCK cells. The extracts of Astilbe rivularis, Bergenia ciliata, Cassiope fastigiata and Thymus...
متن کاملMulticentre patch testing with compositae mix by the Swedish Contact Dermatitis Research Group.
Sesquiterpene lactone mix detects contact allergy to these compounds present in the plant family Asteraceae. This marker is present in many baseline series. An additional marker is Compositae mix, which is not present in many baseline series. To investigate whether this allergen should be inserted into the Swedish baseline series, six dermatology centres representing the Swedish Contact Dermati...
متن کاملChemical and Mechanical Defenses Vary among Maternal Lines and Leaf Ages in Verbascum thapsus L. (Scrophulariaceae) and Reduce Palatability to a Generalist Insect
Intra-specific variation in host-plant quality affects herbivore foraging decisions and, in turn, herbivore foraging decisions mediate plant fitness. In particular, variation in defenses against herbivores, both among and within plants, shapes herbivore behavior. If variation in defenses is genetically based, it can respond to natural selection by herbivores. We quantified intra-specific variat...
